Robert Mendoza, Head Trainer

Robert Mendoza, a University of Vermont graduate, is head trainer at Swept Away Farm. Multitalented in all aspects of horse training, Robert is gifted in starting youngsters, be it in dressage, hunters or jumpers, as well as introducing horses of all ages to their first horse show experience. With over 10 years of competing in the top show rings in the Northeast and Florida, he excels at training the more experienced horse to achieve its maximum level in the jumper ring. Rehabilitation of horses that have developed behavioral, or physical problems is also an area in which he is proficient.
Robert began his career as a working student under the tutelage of Joe Forest at the age of 13. During his 12 years with Joe, he advanced to assistant head trainer before coming to Swept Away Farm in 2002. Robert reinforces Swept Away’s belief that creating a trusting environment is the necessary key in shaping the proper attitude for a horse to learn and develop. He always takes the time to evaluate and understand each horse’s individual personality. The result? Training becomes a positive experience and entering the show ring becomes a well-prepared challenge. Roberts.s expert riding, showing, and training skills are allowing both he and Swept Away to reach their mutual goal of becoming a trademark name in the industry.
